Pastor Bill Owens and his wife Deborah and their two beautiful children have become such a special gift to us. It is their strong faith based on the Judeo-Christian values that founded this great country that binds a black family and a white family in the true meaning of God’s love.
This book is a personal and powerful look at history through the eyes of a black American pastor who understands that only Christian values will restore freedom not only for his people but all people of this great country.
What Happened to Black America?
In his must-read new book, Rev, Bill Owens, a veteran of the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 60s, explains how cynical Democrats used the struggle for Civil Rights to gain a political power base in the black community.
For as long as I can remember, the great struggle for civil rights has been empowered by the frequent use of the Bible. Its great themes of redemption, patient perseverance, and release from bondage have permeated the language we use when we discuss the civil rights movement.
A Sneak Peek Inside A Dream Derailed
Foreword from Evangelist Alveda King
Rev. William (Bill) Owens, Sr. and his wife, Dr. Deborah Owens, are asking very serious questions. What happened in and to black America over the last half a century? Are we worse off than we were during the days of the 20th century civil rights movement? Does most of the black community truly understand what they are voting for? Can we give education a chance? Is there hope for the black family in the twenty-first century? Before you prejudge this timely treatise as just another telling and retelling of what went wrong, keep reading.
Preface: A Call to Black America
When I was a student in seminary, I went through a period of deep despair over the state of my life. I was at a crossroads and had to determine, “What does God have for me to do?” I needed to hear directly from God about the path He wanted me to take in order to live a fulfilled life.
I was living in Los Angeles at the time and knew I needed silence, solitude, and family. In December of 1988, I decided to go to Memphis to stay with my mother until January.
